Four Doctors

Feb 14, 2023

"Life is really simple, but we insist on making it complicated" - Confucius

One of the things I've benefited most from following Paul Chek's instruction is the application of his Four Doctors Theory in my own life. Especially during/after busy work blocks. The premise is simple, and that's the beauty of it. In order to build a healthy foundation of daily habits you must visit four doctors.

- Dr Happy

- Dr Movement

- Dr Quiet

- Dr Diet

If you can make "a visit" to each of these doctors every day you will create a solid foundation to build off. I will often (foolishly) take this theory for granted and think I have to be more precise or go deeper into "the next study", or discover what's "optimal" when it comes to a lot of things, but I was recently reminded during a workshop just how impactful paying attention to their importance really is.

Not only do we want visits to these "doctors" to become part of our foundation, but ideally we want to be able to lean on them in times when we need more than just a routine check up. Stressed out from some work drama that's been tough to shake? There's a doctor for that. Feeling super sluggish after some hard shifts? There's a doctor for that. Feeling disconnected from your spouse and family? You better fucking believe by now that there's a doctor for that!

Over the coming weeks, we'll touch on each doctor specifically to explore how a visit to each might look in our lives, the benefit of them, when to use them and how they work together, as well as provide examples of each to try.

We want to know these doctors so well that when we need to see them, it's as simple and immediate as possible. Nobody likes a 2hr wait at the doctor's office filled with nothing but a dying cell phone and stacks of old copies of People magazine or readers digest when you feel like shit. Right?
