Dr Movement

Jul 24, 2023

Next up is the Dr that can sometimes feel totally out of reach. Simply put, nobody wants to get in that bad ass workout after an overnight shift. No shit! Funny thing is, we would all be well served to listen to that.

The trouble with Dr Movement in our circles, is that we have it engrained in us that the only acceptable workout is the one that leaves you exhausted and sore. Not the case. Now don't get me wrong here, there is a time and place for that bad ass, "IG worthy" workout, but when our nervous system is shot and we're mentally/physically exhausted and stressed is NOT THE TIME. Save those for when you're actually feeling up for them. 2-3 of those a week is a great number to shoot for.

For the rest of the time, how can you move your body that feels good and provides you the opportunity to gain some space and clarity. Some simple suggestions:

  • go for a walk (I won't stop suggesting this btw)
  • go for an easy bike ride
  • play catch
  • take the dog for a hike
  • go for a paddle
  • go for a swim
  • go skiing
  • walk the golf course
  • dance
  • stretch
  • yoga
  • etc, etc, etc

There are all sorts of options here. What I challenge you to think about with Dr Movement is to ask yourself what it is you want to "move" that day. Feeling stressed and anxious? Move that out by slowing down and doing one of the easier things on the list. Feeling fidgety but upbeat? Try one of the more adventurous things on the list. Feeling tight and tired? Try a simple walk followed by a good stretch. Feeling like a million bucks? Go for that workout of the day at your CrossFit gym, the extra open mat session at your BJJ gym, or that tough trail run you've had your eye on.

There's a time to "work out", and there's a time to "work in". That's what matters when it comes to Dr Movement.

Why book an appointment with Dr Movement?

because movement is CRITICAL to our wellbeing in general. Emotions/Stress/Etc need to be moved unless you want to just live in the suck.

When to book an appointment?

Everyday! Just make your choice of movement dependant on how YOU are feeling and what needs to be moved.

Next up is the last of the four Drs.
