Time for #4. Dr Diet rounds out our team, and is the one that in many ways is the easiest and quickest to implement, but the hardest to stay with. I get it. In all the ways. Whether it's being too beat to make something nutritious after a 7-7 or before the next one, or it's cleaning up the kid's plate after dinner, or the "have no time" so you eat a shitty meal while on shift. We have a million reasons to make bad choices; but that's the thing, we have choices.
There's far bigger and more informative nutritional advice widely available than I can give you, but some simple rules to follow are:
- the less ingredients the better
- chew your food (breathe through your nose to slow yourself down)
- quit shopping for food like you shop for gas. Cheaper isn't better (most of the time)
The final big one with Dr Diet is water. Good ol' high quality H2O. We are massively under hydrated on a regular basis and a simple rule of thumb to follow is to drink half your body weight in ounces per day on average (obviously more for high exertion days).
A great way to jumpstart your hydration is to drink a large glass of water BEFORE COFFEE in the morning after waking. Add a pinch of sea salt and a solid squeeze of lemon to replenish the electrolytes you lost overnight (because you did, weird right?) and make that the first thing you put into your body each day.
When my nutrition slips, I notice in many ways but especially in: my energy level, and my patience. Where do you notice it?
Why book an appointment with Dr Diet?
High performance engines need high performance fuel. Treat yourself that way. It's fine to splurge and indulge at times, we're here to enjoy life not survive it, but the link between your health and your diet is inarguable. Despite what popular medicine and it's reliance on pharmaceuticals to try and fix everything, the vast majority of our conditions and moods can be altered/cured/alleviated by diet and hydration.
- When to book an appointment?
These choices are a lifestyle, and we get to make those choices all day everyday!
Now that you have an intro to the four doctors, start identifying how to implement them in your life and book those appointments folks!
