A Deep Breath

Nov 14, 2021

How often do you take one?

I'm a big proponent of daily intentional breathing (call it "breathwork" if you want, but I know certain combinations of words like that tend to scare a lot of you fellas away). Aside from the more instantly gratifying results from combining that with a meditation practice, I've noticed another unique shift.

Lately I've found myself organically taking a long sip of air and just letting it go. It's only one breath so no big deal right? Wrong. With that inhale/exhale comes a multitude of things. Physically my shoulders will drop and posture improves, while mentally I'll find myself clear, relaxed, and thankful with zero stress whatsoever. Sounds a bit fluffy I know, but I don't think I can explain it any other way. This breath doesn't seem to have an agenda when it comes. Sometimes it'll be when I'm already chill and at ease, but other times it will show up when I'm in that "stuck in my head ready to snap at something insignificant" place.......don't act like you don't know that place.

Sometimes I'm able to carry that easeful feeling, while other times I can only acknowledge it and be grateful for it showing up. Either way it's quite amazing.

From all that I've read and been taught, I firmly believe this is the direct result of some consistent mindfulness practices that are non negotiable throughout my day. You don't have to sit on top of a mountain for hours. It can be as short as a minute or two spread amongst your day multiple times. The only valid excuse I accept for you guys not doing this is that sometimes it is really fucking hard to sit with yourself. I get that...I've been there...it gets easier.

I've talked about, and taught some of you a number of these simple and quick mindfulness practices (if you don't like that word just get over it). If you want to get long term results, consistency really is important. Far more important than the duration of any one particular practice in my opinion. Reach out if you want some help getting some consistency established, I'd love to talk about it and help however I can. It's worth it. If you lost my info, email or call me.
